Representative Brad Buckley Named Freshman of the Year by Texas House Republican Caucus

AUSTIN - On Monday, May 27, State Representative Brad Buckley (R-Salado) was selected by his colleagues in the Texas House Republican Caucus to be named the 86th Texas Legislature's Freshman of the Year.

The award was presented to Buckley on the floor of the Texas House of Representatives by House Republican Caucus Chairman Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock), shortly before the Texas Legislature adjourned indefinitely, ending the 86th Legislative Session.

"Selecting Brad Buckley as our Freshman of the Year truly speaks volumes of his character and leadership," Burrows said. "He was committed to supporting Texas veterans, military spouses, advocating for the interests of rural Texas, and fighting for the taxpayer. He has gone above and beyond, and in his leadership throughout the last few months, Dr. Buckley has helped in countless negotiations and played an integral role in passing valuable legislation."

The Freshman of the Year award recognizes significant achievement by new Republican members of the Texas House of Representatives during their first session in Austin. Each session, members of the Texas House Republican Caucus cast votes to select a single freshman to receive the award. Buckley was chosen from among 10 other freshman Republican colleagues to receive the award.

“I am honored to have earned this recognition from my Republican colleagues in the Texas House,” Buckley said. “Their hard work and leadership provided me with a tremendous learning opportunity during my first session.”

Rep. Brad Buckley is a first-term legislator from Salado, Texas, and represents part of Bell County and all of Lampasas County in Central Texas. He holds a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University, and is a local veterinarian in Killeen, Texas. Dr. Buckley is a cattle rancher, raiser of cutting horses, proud husband, and father to three amazing children, all of whom are Aggies.
